In the process of filming three Belarusian women as they fight for freedom against a brutal dictatorship, filmmaker Volia Chajkouskaya becomes a subject of the film herself. Sviatlana, Nadzeya, and Masha—whose husbands are all political prisoners—teach Volia that overcoming her own inner fear is the first step in rebelling against the patriarchal tyranny that has ruled Belarus for decades.
